Feet on the Street Tours presents Murals in the Market Walking Tours

Experience an up close & behind the scenes look at the 2nd Annual Murals in the Market Festival in the Eastern Market District. We will be enjoying the new public art and vibrancy created in the Market by Inner State Gallery, 1xRUN and the Eastern Market Corporation, along with a group of sponsors. There is nothing like seeing these incredible large-scale works of art for yourself, and hearing the artists' stories.

Building on the momentum of last year's inaugural festival, incredible street art comes to life on even more buildings all over the Eastern Market District. Whether you join us during the festival to see the artists in action, or come once the murals are complete, you will not want to miss being a part of this exciting Detroit production!

What is Murals in the Market?

DETROIT'S 2nd ANNUAL MURALS IN THE MARKET FESTIVAL

September 14 – 24, 2015

Public art has long been an integral part of the Eastern Market district and experience. Over the past 5 years, 1xRUN and the company's fine art gallery Inner State have curated and produced over 80 murals in Eastern Market alone, with more than 150 murals throughout the City of Detroit, including the 2011 city-wide Detroit Beautification Project.  With the creation of these murals, each area has seen a significant visual impact on the surrounding neighborhood as well as increased traffic, additional economic development and increased safety.  Now 1xRUN and Inner State Gallery are teaming up with the Eastern Market Corporation for the 2nd Annual Murals in the Market festival, which will bring together 20 + local and 20 + international artists to paint large scale murals throughout the district. This expansion on 40+ years of large scale public murals will add exciting new works throughout the market.

With this diverse group of artists from around the world, Murals in the Market will enhance the market experience and help continue the transformation of the market district into a must-see destination. Murals In The Market will host cultural tours of Detroit, live mural painting, live music events and art lectures inside the Eastern Market district.

Since it began in the 1800s, Eastern Market has gradually become a cornerstone community that nourishes its residents by providing fresh and nutritious food throughout Southeastern Michigan. In more recent years, Eastern Market Corporation has built an infrastructure around the market to support our unwavering mission to enrich the community—nutritionally, culturally and economically.

We've been doing Eastern Market tours for 14 years and it's still a fan favorite!

Delish Detroit will stroll from shed to shed and visit specialty stores to learn about unique products, hear fun facts and history of the area, while going behind the scenes and sampling various foods. Enjoy eating locally produced pizza, popcorn, pickles and pastries; specialty sausages and cheeses; authentic spinach pies and spreads, and more! We'll get to know local growers and vendors, their products, and some tips for improving your health with Michigan foods. We'll be exploring the stunning art murals in the Market along our way, many of which were created during last year's Mural Festival, and we will also visit an art gallery or a letterpress shop.

Find seasonal fruits and vegetables, while eating your way through the market!

We are pleased to be donating $1 from the sale of each Eastern Market tour ticket to Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan! Every dollar buys 3 meals for struggling families in our local community.
